Kyrgyzstan Nomad Ride
This is the Moto Yak introduction to Central Asia: a 1,330-kilometre loop out of Bishkek and back through the mountain heart of Kyrgyzstan. Three-thousand-metre passes, the red gorge of the Kokomeren, the Song-Kul plateau and the sand canyons of the Eki-Naryn — the country changes shape every single day.

Riding is mixed and rewarding — kilometres of gravel, dirt and sand, the rest on empty mountain tarmac. You should be fit and riding regularly, and comfortable standing on the pegs, but nothing on this route asks for enduro skill: the days are built around what you see, not how hard it is. A mechanic and a support vehicle follow every kilometre.

Along the way you sleep in village guesthouses and one night in a yurt at 3,000 metres, eat with the families who host you, and share the pastures with herders who move up here every summer. Horses, high grass and a sky with nothing in it — that is Kyrgyzstan.
